Bringing people together

More than 1,200 people gathered in Pierson Auditorium and Swinney Recreation Center on March 17 for the 8th Annual Culture Night.

UMKC is a diverse, urban campus with students, faculty and staff from 92 countries, including the United States. Culture Night is UMKC’s largest event that brings together students, faculty, staff and Kansas City community members to celebrate cultural diversity through ethnic food, fashion and talent shows. Awards are presented for food and talent.

The Best Dish Award went to a team of students from India for their Chicken Pryiani. The Best Dessert Award went to Yahswanth Manchikaila for Carrot Nankathai.

Results from the talent show are: First Place Singing, Safeer Siddicky, from Bangladesh; Second Place Dancing, a team of students from India; and Third Place Singing, Yinno-C, from Cameroon.

Sponsors of Culture Night 2016 were CORT Furniture, Paradise Biryani Pointe/Kulture Kurry, Northern Indian Cuisine, Sahara, Bo-Lings and Taste of Brazil. Festivities were hosted by the UMKC International Student Ambassadors with advising coordinated by the UMKC International Student Affairs Office.
