Summer Reading List!!!

As many of you know by now, I am a strong proponent for keeping a good work/life balance.  It is important that you do not lose in law school/or the working world what makes you unique as an individual. I am an avid reader and I love to share, so here are some book suggestions (some law related and some not) for the time you spend lying by a pool, ocean, pond or whatever other body of water strikes your fancy.17978490

Little Demon in the City of Light: A True Story of Murder and Mesmerism in Belle Époque Paris by Steven Levingston is the story of a murder in Paris in 1889 and the first trial in which a defendant tried to raise the defense of hypnotism at the subsequent trial to avoid criminal responsibility.  The case was an international sensation and is a quick read for the true crime aficionado.

indexDark Invasion: 1915 Germany’s Secret War and the Hunt for the First Terrorist Cell in America by Howard Blum is a gripping story of the espionage conducted by Germany against the United States prior to the US’s entry into World War I.  Germany engaged in both bombings and biological warfare against the United States to undermine the US’s shipment of war materiel to Great Britain and France.  This is the story of the hunt for these terrorists by the New York Police Department.  This book is a gripping read and sheds light on a largely unknown history.

H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald is a fascinating look into grief, the 1406742829457natural world, and the mind of a tormented and gifted writer.  When Macdonald’s father dies, she decides to return to a passion and “man” a Goshawk, one of nature’s most gifted predators.  Along the way, she rediscovers T.H. White’s account of his own attempt at training a Goshawk.  This book is heart-wrenching, funny, compassionate and captivating.
