Interested in JAG?

The United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps each has its own Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG), which serves as legal counsel for the military’s respective branches.  JAG is a unique opportunity for attorneys.  Attorneys become members of the military, signing a commitment to serve in our Armed Forces for a period of time, often four years.  JAG attorneys receive special training on military law and how the practice of law is done in their branch of the military and also the many benefits given to federal employees.  JAG attorneys practice in a variety of areas including kinds of civil and criminal law.

Visit the following sites to learn more about each branch and its JAG program.

If you are even potentially interested in any of these programs, please note that the deadlines to apply for the Summer Internship programs and Student Direct Appointment programs often come early.

For example, the United States Air Force is seeking 1L and 2L applicants for its Summer 2015 Externship positions.  See the U.S. Air Force Externship Handout for details on the program and instructions on how to apply.  The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 27th.

In addition, Navy JAG is accepting applications for the  Summer Internship Program, and the deadline to apply to that is Monday, January 5 and is open for both 1Ls and 2Ls.  This is a great way to get your foot into the door of Navy JAG, so do not miss out!

Finally, the Navy JAG Corps is currently accepting applications from 2Ls and 3Ls for its  Student Program and the deadline to apply to this program is Friday, February 13, 2015.

If you are interested in JAG opportunities, it is vital that you start the application process now and be aware of the deadlines.

CSO hopes you have an excellent winter break. If you have any questions about the JAG opportunities or anything else, our office will remain open through most of the break.
