Our resources are intended to support students in their academic and personal success, as well as to uphold our values of inclusive excellence. We have a number of scholarship opportunities for LGBTQIA students, including our Empowerment Fund, created to support students who experience loss of financial support from their family after coming out.

About the Rainbow Lounge
Established by LGBTQIA Programs & Services, the Rainbow Lounge is UMKC’s official LGBTQIA resource space. This space is intended as a welcoming space for students, regardless of sexual or gender diversity and expression. We ask that all guests help maintain the Rainbow Lounge as a space of inclusion. Affectionately referred to as our LGBTQIA living room, here, students will find literature, recreational opportunities and lounge space for, about and by the UMKC LGBTQIA student community.

Peer Education & Support
LGBTQIA Programs & Services offers several opportunities for students to offer and receive support and education to and from their peers. These opportunities include Speaker’s Bureaus, an LGBTQIA+ Mentor Program, and Discussion Groups.
We have a number of scholarship opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students, including our Empowerment Fund, created to support students who experience loss of financial support from their family after coming out.
UMKC faculty and staff who choose to participate in the Out List demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the LGBTQIA+ community has a visible presence at UMKC.

While UMKC LGBTQIA Programs & Services offers many resources, the UMKC community can also find support across campus as well as in Kansas City, the state of Missouri, and nationally.
Trans @ UMKC
UMKC LGBTQIA Programs & Services is committed to ensuring our transgender and gender non-binary community feel they have the support and resources to succeed at UMKC. This is done through inclusive policies, gender-inclusive facilities, and educational resources for transgender allies.
