Kick off your new semester with Week of Welcome! Connect with new and returning Roos. Week of Welcome is a chance to explore campus resources, make new friends, and learn what it takes to succeed at UMKC. All UMKC students are encouraged to attend Week of Welcome events.

Week of Welcome unites new and returning students to celebrate UMKC’s vibrant, university life, while also energizing them as they transition to the new semester ahead.

Save the date! Spring Week of Welcome begins Tuesday, January 19 and runs through Saturday, February 6.

Transfer Student Network RooGroups Path

Details: The Transfer Student Network RooGroups Path serves as an experiential learning and involvement record for UMKC transfer students. Through participating in the Transfer Student Network RooGroups Path, students can diversify their resume and involvement experiences, building transferable skills that will help them succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. UMKC Taste of Home
Registration Required: No, but submit your recipe today!
Details: Food brings families together. Share your Taste of Home with our Roo Family! Now more than ever, we’re flocking to our kitchens to enjoy the simple comforts of cooking. Whether you are a foodie influencer, or just want to showcase a favorite quick and easy meal, share your talents with us, as we build our #UMKCTasteofHome Cookbook. We are looking for those “signature” family recipes—the ones that families make again and again. The recipes that UMKC families make when their student comes home. Those must-try dishes that have been in your family for generations, or your kitchen hacks that have become your favorite go-to family meals during these past few months. Select recipes will be featured in the #UMKCTasteOfHome Cookbook.

Roo Companion

Details: Do you want to make connections with other Roos at UMKC? Roo Companion is a Pen Pal program designed by the Office of Student Involvement (OSI)! Register for Roo Companion and be matched with students on campus with similar interests. This semester, participants can select if they would like to receive one Roo Companion match or receive a small group to connect with. Previous participants are encouraged to participate again as well! You can connect with your Roo Companion through a variety of methods: Video Chat (Zoom, FaceTime, or other platforms), text, Phone Call, Email, Social Media, Snail Mail, Gaming, or any other way you mutually agree to communicate. Details: The UMKC History Tour is one of our favorite UMKC traditions. Join us for our revamped UMKC Virtual History Tour. Learn the stories behind the monuments, historical milestones, and traditions of the UMKC Volker Campus. See the birthplace of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), walk in the footsteps of President Harry Truman, visit the university’s art treasures, and experience much more. These videos will help to give a little background to UMKC’s history and help you to see the Volker Campus in a new light. Once you know the history behind it, you’ll never be able to look at it the same way again.

UMKC Letters from Home
Registration Required: No, but write your letter today!
Details: Letters from Home invites you to write some encouraging words to your student that will be mailed to them during the middle of the semester. These encouraging words can be words of affirmation, opportunities for reflection, or even hopes for the next few weeks into the next few years. If you would like to personally mail a letter to your student, we have Letters from Home stationary just for you!
