Transitioning to college is a big step. Not only for the student, but also for parents.
In high school you played a significant role in assisting your student. In college that role changes from that of a caretaker to that of a mentor or coach.
Student Disability Services fosters independence and self-determination in students with disabilities. We work with the student to establish and carry out an Accommodation Plan.
Colleges treat students as legal adults with all the freedoms and responsibilities that come with that status. Once admitted to the University students come under the FERPA privacy laws that ensures the student’s right to privacy. It prohibits university officials from sharing non-directory educational records with anyone other than the student, including parents, without the student’s written permission.
