Workshop Questions

Those wishing to stay off-campus will find many wonderful hotels in the Kansas City area. Hotels in the Plaza or Westport Districts will be closest to symposium events. UMKC does not coordinate any off-campus housing.

There are several nearby hotels that offer UMKC rates, including Extended Stay America – County Club Plaza (formerly Homestead Suites), Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza and Hampton Inn – Country Club Plaza. To obtain this rate, please call these hotels, mention your event, and ask for the UMKC rate. Participants are responsible for their own housing costs and reservations.

The nearest airport to UMKC is Kansas City International Airport (MCI).  This airport is located approximately 25 miles from UMKC, and there are a number of shuttles and taxi services available to transport travelers to campus, for a fee (typically $30-$50 per trip)

UMKC Conservatory Summer Programs do not arrange any airport transportation; we recommend visiting www.flykci.com to plan your trip to campus.

Meals will be at the participant’s own expense. All participants should budget approximately $20.00 per day for lunch and dinner.

For participants who will be driving to events each day, parking is free on campus during the weekend. On Friday, we recommend parking on the fifth floor of the Cherry Street Parking Garage which has metered parking and would be cheaper than purchasing a temporary parking pass.

Summers in Kansas City are hot and humid. University rooms and the dorms are air conditioned, but summer clothing is recommended. You may want to bring a sweater if you get chilly in air conditioning.

A tentative 2022 schedule is available on the Schedule page.
