Am I required to stay on campus during my program?

  • On-campus housing is optional.  Participants are welcome to enroll for on-campus housing, or to commute in each day.

I plan to fly into Kansas City – what do I need to know?

  • The nearest airport to UMKC is Kansas City International Airport (MCI).  This airport is located approximately 25 miles from UMKC, and there are a number of shuttles and taxi services available to transport travelers to campus, for a fee (typically $30-$50 per trip)
  • UMKC Conservatory Summer Programs do not arrange any airport transportation; we recommend visiting www.flykci.com to plan your trip to campus.

Will meals be provided?

  • For those participants staying on campus in our residence halls, a continental breakfast will be provided.  Lunch and dinner will be at participants’ own expense.  All participants should budget approximately $20.00 per day for lunch and dinner (on or off campus).

Does UMKC offer wireless internet access?

  • Most UMKC buildings are outfitted with wireless internet, which can be accessed by a UMKC username and password that changes weekly.  At program check-in, we can provide you with that week’s guest username and password.  This username and password will allow you to log-in everyone on campus EXCEPT UMKC Residence Halls.
  • UMKC Residence Halls are equipped with secure wireless internet that can only be accessed with a unique username and password.  Access is available to workshop participants for a weekly rate.  To register, please indicate on your registration form that you would like internet.  Your username and password will be provided to you at program check-in.

I am driving to campus each day – where can I park?

  • For participants who will be driving to campus each day, a weekly parking permit will need to be purchased.  These permits are available for a fee and will allow one week of parking in UMKC Student lots.  To purchase a permit, please indicate so on your registration form.  Permits will be available to pick up at program check-in.  If you choose not to purchase a permit in advance, you may also do so during the week of your program by visiting the UMKC Parking Office.
  • *Please note* – Parking permits are good for UMKC STUDENT LOTS only, and your permit must be displayed at all times when parked in Student lots.  Parking in UMKC Faculty/Staff or Metered Parking lots may result in a ticket, even if your student permit is displayed.  Please read all signs carefully!  UMKC Conservatory Summer Programs are not responsible for tickets issued.

Do I need to bring towels/sheets?

  • Linens and towels will be provided. (sheets, blanket, pillow, pillowcase, towels, washcloth).  Please note, the sheets provided include two flat sheets; if you need a fitted sheet, you are welcome to bring your own.

I am a parent – can I stay in the dorm with my student?

  • Summer programs are a great time for students to build new relationships with peers who have similar interests.  We discourage rooming with a parent during this week.  If you have questions about this policy, please call our office at (816) 235-2741.

Can I choose my roommate?

  • If you know another participant who will be attending the Institute and would like to share a room with them, please indicate this on your registration form or email us to let us know.  We would be happy to accommodate your request.
