Traveling to and Staying in Kansas City
Staying on campus
Those wishing to stay close to Institute events may want to register for on-campus housing. This fee includes seven nights in a UMKC dormitory room (double occupancy), as well as meals in the UMKC Cafeteria. Rooms in UMKC residence halls are set up suite-style, with two participants per room, and two rooms to a connected bathroom. An upgrade to a single room is also available for an additional fee. Participants will be housed in either the Oak Street or the Johnson Residence Halls.

Staying off campus
Those wishing to stay off-campus will find many wonderful hotels in the Kansas City area. Hotels in the Plaza or Westport Districts will be closest to workshop events. UMKC does not coordinate any off-campus housing.
There are several nearby hotels that offer UMKC rates, including Extended Stay America – Country Club Plaza (formerly Homestead Suites),Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza and Hampton Inn – Country Club Plaza. To obtain this rate, please call these hotels, mention your event, and ask for the UMKC rate.
Parking
Parking on the UMKC campus is limited. If you will be driving to campus each day, or keeping a car on campus during the symposium, we recommend purchasing a UMKC parking permit. Parking permits will allow the participant to park in designated UMKC student parking lots.
Internet Access
All UMKC buildings are equipped with wireless internet. We will provide all participants with a guest username and password which will allow access to campus internet at no cost.
UMKC Residence Halls are equipped with special secure Internet access that requires a unique username and password. These can be purchased for a fee. Participants who are not staying in the residence halls will not need to purchase this access.
Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided in the UMKC dining hall. The Dining Hall in the University Center offers freshly prepared food in several stations. Select from a “Cook to Order” station featuring innovative cuisine from around the word. Select comfort food from the “Chef’s Feature” areas. There is a brick oven for pizzas, calzones, stromboli, and bread sticks. The Grill features quick foods and the Deli is a great place for a sandwich or wrap. All menu items are subject to change.
Meals are already included in the on-campus housing fee. A meal plan is available for purchase for those staying off campus.

Flying to Kansas City
The nearest airport to UMKC is Kansas City International Airport (MCI). This airport is located approximately 25 miles from UMKC, and there are a number of shuttles and taxi services available to transport travelers to campus, for a fee. UMKC does not arrange transportation to or from the airport; we recommend visiting www.flykci.com to plan your trip to campus.
