Intensive English Program

Our Intensive English program is 20 to 25 hours of instruction per week. It is designed to not only teach you English but also to prepare you for the university classroom. Students who complete Level 4 (Undergraduate) or Level 5 (Graduate) meet UMKC’s English requirement. Many UMKC programs offer conditional admission. Click here for more information.

Our Intensive English program has small classes and all levels of instruction (from no English to preparation for graduate-level). Each student takes a placement exam to determine what level of instruction is needed. At the end of the semester, we provide certificates of attendance and completion.

We offer 6 levels of instruction.

No matter what your ability, we have a level for you.

  • Basic – for students with no English
  • Level I
  • Level II
  • Level III
  • Level IV – once successfully completed, students are ready for undergraduate academics
  • Level V – once successfully completed, students are ready for graduate academics
