Administration of the University of Missouri-Kansas City‘s University Archives will move to the Miller Nichols Library, starting August 21.

The UMKC administration’s decision to relocate archives user services and processing follows the retirement of longtime university archivist David Boutros last month. Archives staff as well as delivery and retrieval of materials will move from Newcomb Hall to the 4th floor of Miller Nichols Library, room 410. Stewardship of the University Archives will be led by the director of the University Libraries’ Division of Special Collections and University Archives, Stuart Hinds. Items housed at Newcomb will move over to the library, but the majority of the collection will stay in its current location, the Columbia Records Center.

“UMKC Libraries is honored to  be entrusted with the maintenance and growth of the University Archives,” said Bonnie Postlethwaite, dean of libraries. “Our hope is that integrating our collections and resources will be of benefit to our researchers while at the same time providing cross-training and back-up for archives’ staff.”

What this change means:

  • New hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Monday to Friday
  • New location to send materials to Archives: 410 Miller Nichols Library (While the transition is in progress, please do not send new material to University Archives until after September 8.)
  • New Web address:
  • Same phone number: 816-235-1539
  • Same staff contact: Tonya Crawford, Senior Manuscript Specialist
  • Same processing and retrieval times
