UMKC’s BkMk Press author, Lorraine M. López, will read from Homicide Survivor’s Picnic at a ceremony at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C on May 8th, 7 p.m. She is a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award, the nation’s largest peer-reviewed book prize and she received a five-thousand dollar prize. Her book was published by BkMk Press last fall. The winner of the PEN/Faulkner is Sherman Alexie and the other finalists are Barbara Kingsolver, Lorrie Morre, and Colson Whitehead. Rilla Askew, Kyoko Mori and Al Young, the judges, narrowed it down to five books out of nearly 350 novels and short story collections.
