In School? We’ll Pay for It!

Are you pursuing a degree? We can help pay for it!

Each year, the Recognition Committee awards a $500 scholarship to at least two full-time staff members who are actively seeking an undergraduate, professional, graduate, or doctoral degree from UMKC.

We are pleased to provide scholarships to our dedicated and valued staff members who are continuing their education here at UMKC.

Applications for the 2015-2016 academic year will be accepted until 5 p.m. on April 29.

The application and details for the Staff Council Scholarship Award are available on the Recognition Committee page.

Please contact Amy Brost at if you have any questions about the Staff Council Scholarship or if you are interested in learning more about the Recognition Committee.

Meet Lydia Dagenais!

dagenais-lydiaSchool of Law Director of Admissions staff member Lydia Dagenais has worked at the University since August 2013 and is this month’s High Five grand prize winner. Read on to get to know her, then why not give her a high five in person next time you see her?

Congrats on your big win!

What’s your favorite vacation spot? My mother is from Hilo, Hawaii, so I have been visiting family there regularly my whole life and it is my favorite place to go back to.

How do you spend your free time? I have a toddler, so most of my free time is spent doing things like going to the zoo, visiting parks, and generally finding ways for my son to expel energy.

Do you have a favorite meal to make or eat? Pancakes! Easy to make, and everyone loves pancakes.

What is your favorite thing about working at UMKC? I work in admissions, so one of the things I especially enjoy is walking through the halls of the Law School and seeing all of the students I worked with during their admissions process and keeping up with their progress. It’s very rewarding to know I played a role in their coming to UMKC and the start of their legal careers.

Thank You for Nominations

November 1 was the last day to nominate a staff member for one of the five annual awards dedicated to our exemplary staff members.

There were 15 nominations submitted this year. The Student Affairs’ Student Mentor Award received the most, with a total of 5 nominations.

We want your input! How do you feel about the criteria for the current staff awards? Are there categories of staff that aren’t represented?

The Recognition Committee is reviewing the award criteria and selection process in an order to streamline the nomination files and give more staff the opportunity to be recognized by their supervisors and peers. Please send your responses to Amy Brost at

Nominations for this years’ awards will be reviewed by the Staff Council and the recipients will be notified in early 2015.

A list of previous recipients of these awards are available here.
