Did you know?

In between Awareness Articles, the Advocacy Committee will highlight three resources or perks that you may not know are available to UMKC employees.

1. Ethics and Compliance Hotline
The University of Missouri values honesty, integrity, ethical conduct and compliance with laws, regulations and policies.  The University has established the Ethics and Compliance Hotline to provide a confidential way for individuals to report instances of suspected fraud, misconduct, or noncompliance with laws, regulations or policies, in a manner that preserves anonymity and ensures non-retaliation.  For more information, visit https://www.compliance-helpline.com/UM.jsp

2. Benefits Extra
As a UMKC employee, there are many additional benefits you have that you may not be aware of.  Benefits extras are a group of special benefits that provide you with various discounts and perks that you can take advantage of just for being a UMKC employee!  These include events, entertainment, retail, transportation, and more.  For more information, visit http://www.umkc.edu/hr/benefits/benefit-extras.asp

3. Sustainability Pledge
The UMKC Sustainability Team works to reduce the amount of energy used on campus through a voluntary energy management program.  For more information, visit http://info.umkc.edu/sustainability/events/take-the-pledge-today-to-save-energy/ and make your Sustainability Pledge today!

Thank You for Nominations

The Recognition Committee would like to thank all of the faculty, staff and students who nominated staff members for the five annual awards dedicated to our exemplary staff members.

Friday, November 1 was the last day to send a nomination. There were a total of 69 nominations! More than double the number of nominations received in 2012! With a whopping 49 nominations for the Chancellor’s True Unsung Hero Staff Award.

The Recognition Committee has reviewed the nominations and the Chancellor’s Office will publicly announce the recipients in early 2014.

A list of previous recipients of these awards are available here.

Awards aren’t the only way to show your appreciation for your coworkers. You can send them a High Five and their name will be put in a monthly drawing to be recognized by Staff Council.

Please contact Sheletha Davis at staffcouncil@umkc.edu if you have any questions about Staff Awards or if you are interested in learning more about the Recognition Committee.

Cathy Slack

Our first High Five winner is Cathy Reckley Slack!

Cathy is currently an Accountant for the Office of the Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. She has worked for the university for over 6 years.

In addition to working full-time at UMKC, Cathy works seasonally as a tax professional at H&R Block and is also a student. She will graduate with her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with a minor in Economics in May 2014!

In her limited free time, she loves watching football. She is rooting for her Dallas Cowboys and The Ohio State Buckeyes. She also enjoys getting together with family and friends for game night.

Cathy likes to be any place on or near the water. She has checked off parasailing and skydiving from her bucket list and hopes to cross a few more things off the list – like heading to Vegas and Hawaii – after graduation.

Sunflowers and gardenias make her smile-so does pizza and brownies!
