Your Career Services Office and Law Library are full of resources to help you find and land your dream job.  This post is the first in a series which will highlight some of the excellent resources that are available to you.  The books listed below are available in the Law Library. We also have a display of professional development books in the Career Services Office that is changed throughout the semester.  We encourage you to consider those resources as well and contact the Law Library if you are interested in checking any of them out.

 Business Etiquette for Students and New Professionals by Mary Crane (2014) – Need a brush up on your business etiquette?  This book is a concise and valuable resource to learn how to navigate the ins and outs of modern business formality.  The advice ranges from how to dress for an interview to how to survive at a formal dinner party to how to select an appropriate gift for a client.  Take a look!

The Social Media Job Search Workbook by Joshua Waldman 

(2013) – Intimidated by LinkedIn or confused on how you should appropriately use social media in your professional life?  This resource is a workbook that takes you step by step through the variety of social media available and how to optimize your use of them to meet your professional and career goals.  Even if you are already a user of social media for your professional life, this book asks questions to get you thinking more strategically on branding yourself to become online who you are becoming as a professional.

Cameron.  If you are interested in practicing in small town or rural America, definitely check out this resource.  The guide is comprehensive and gives advice on (1) Planning to relocate; (2) Making the move; (3) What do expect in small law practice (fee structures, rural clients, payment, navigating small town courts); (4) How to buy or begin a small practice.  This resource is rich source of information for individuals thinking about making the move to small town life, so please take a look.

All UMKC students have access to an extensive online database with information on job seekers looking for employment abroad.  As long as you are connecting through a campus IP address, you can access a site called Going Global. This resource has country specific information on job markets, job search and resume advice, and much more.  Anyone looking for a job internationally should utilize this vast accumulation of information.
