Alum Steve Lewis to Study in Paris – 06/15/2016

Steve Lewis, Jr. (MM conducting, 2012) has been awarded the EAMA/Florence Gould Foundation Michael Iovenko Fellowship to study conducting in Paris, Summer 2016 as part of the European American Musical Alliance at the historic Schola Cantorum.

The month-long program is patterned after the teachings of the legendary Nadia Boulanger with many classes lead by her former students.

In the 2016–2017 season Steve will make guest conducting appearances with the University of Central Missouri orchestra and the Emporia State University chamber orchestra.

Under Lewis’ direction the Midwest Chamber Ensemble will perform at the International Clarinet Association’s “Clarinet Fest” in August and the ensemble’s recording of music by Louis Spohr will be released this winter.

Steve is currently the Music Director of the Midwest Chamber Ensemble and holds degrees and diplomas from the North Carolina School of the Arts (High School, French 2005), East Carolina University (BM, Music Theory/Composition 2010) and UMKC.

Congratulations!
