For Fall Semester 2011, 149 students received scholarships through the College and its departments. This does not include the “automatic scholarships” awarded by the campus to incoming freshmen but debited from A&S monies.
In FY 2011, faculty in the College obtained more than $6,571,930 in research grants and contracts from applications for funding totaling $13,371,389. That is a success rate of 49%.
In AY 2010-2011, the Divisions of the College awarded the following numbers of degrees at the bachelors’ level: Humanities, 277; Social Sciences, 235; Natural Sciences, 106. At the Masters level the numbers were: Humanities, 59; Social Sciences, 111; Natural Sciences, 27.
For Fall Semester 2011, the number of tenured and tenure-track faculty in A&S will be 178. That is an average of 9.89 per department. They will be joined by 15 non-tenure track faculty and 20 full-time lecturers making the total 213.
The Eighteen A&S Academic Departments averaged 634 SCH in Summer 2011 enrollments. Four had more than 1,000. These were: Chemistry, Communication Studies, English, and Mathematics & Statistics.
According to the UMKC Office of Research Services, in FY 2010-2011, A&S faculty obtained $6,572,036 in external grants and contracts. The average award size was $142,870.
In Spring 2011, there were 2,975 students in majors in the College or in the BLA degree program. Six departments with the largest numbers of majors enrolled 1,660 and the BLA program added 344.
Eleven A&S faculty have taken retirement effective this year. These openings, together with a few open positions from previous years, have allowed for the 16 new hires that have been completed and three that are pending. Of these 19, 14 are tenure track; 4 are non-tenure track, and one is tenured.
One hundred and eight graduating seniors received departmental honors from the departments in which they majored at the May 2011 A&S Commencement.
