Dear Vicki,
Caught your article about Major Glenn Miller and the American Band of the AEF recordings for the Office of War Information and ABSIE. WIsh to suggest some factual recommendations, for instance, there was no such thing as the “Air Force Network” but the “American Forces Network (AFN),” which was the London branch of AFRS. I also have some other recommendations and would be happy to get in touch to offer my thoughts. Meanwhile, please look at our website (Glenn Miller Archive), http://music.colorado.edu/departments./amrc/gma to locate our own reports about Miller, ABSIE and Miller’s activities in the United Kingdom in 1944. Also, please feel free to consult our Facebook page (Glenn Miller Archive) for further information. In addition, my book “Resolved” about the disappearance of Glenn Miller will be published shortly. Details are contained on our website and a separate Facebook page (Glenn Miller Resolved). In short, I have located and read many thousands of pages of documentation concerning ABSIE and have a perspective about the information publicly reported about the service over the years that may or may not be accurate, including Miller’s participation. Also, please note the “AFN” album was not simply “in the opinion of Miller experts” a bootleg. The publisher indeed stole masters from EMI and circulated them without permission. The Miller family correctly brought suit to stop the circulation of the material. Perhaps this is a quaint notion given today’s Internet and services such as You Tube, but so be it. As the designated archive for Glenn Miller and his heirs we are pleased to assist you whenever you have any questions about Glenn Miller. Otherwise, thank you for thinking about him and in total your article was great! It would also perhaps be in our mutual interest to at some point compare notes about our sound and document archives and coordinate activities. We have a mutual interest in preservation, enhancement and publication of big band history.
