Faculty, staff work together

UMKC faculty and staff gathered for Spring Service Day on the Volker and Hospital Hill campuses Thursday, April 16. The annual event allows faculty and staff to work together on campus beautification projects. By coming together outside their daily jobs, faculty and staff meet new colleagues and renew a feeling of pride in the university and campus. Volunteers painted; planted flowers and shrubs; and cleaned common areas on both campuses.

Murray M. Blackwelder, campaign counsel for UMKC Foundation, and UMKC Chancellor Leo E. Morton rallied volunteers before they left for their projects. Morton thanked everyone for their contribution to making the campus a beautiful place to study, work and visit.

Morton and Blackwelder also thanked everyone for meeting the $5 million goal of the faculty and staff campaign. By meeting the financial target, the foundation has established a new goal to raise $6.75 million from faculty and staff by the end of June 2016. The university launched The Campaign for UMKC in 2011 with the tagline, “This is the time. This is the place.” It is a seven-year, $250 million campaign.
