Artist Jorge García Almodóvar Presents “en bloc”

Exhibition to be held in
the UMKC Gallery of Art

The upcoming exhibit at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Gallery of Art is Jorge García Almodóvar’s “en bloc.” Almodóvar’s work is driven by his belief in simplicity of expression. He systematically strips away non-essential elements, to emphasize the convergence of composition, form and color.

His current series is inspired by the physical space of the UMKC Gallery of Art. This site-specific installation works with the space, creating a unique setting that challenges the viewer to experience this body of work “en bloc.” The opening reception will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 6. The exhibit will run March 6- April 11.

Almodóvar attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and also studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He currently lives in Kansas City, where he received the Charlotte Street Visual Art Award in 2008. His work has been exhibited in various galleries throughout the Kansas City area.
