2011 Homecoming celebrates a return to campus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) will begin its 2011 homecoming celebration – “Make Your Return to Campus” – on Sept. 26. More than 1,000 people are expected to participate in the events on Saturday, Oct. 1, which include the Kidney Walk, homecoming activities and the Roos soccer game. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to participate.

Student Talent Show – 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, Student Union Theatre, 5100 Cherry St. Bring your spoken word, poetry or talent to the stage. Judges will decide who is the most talented. Winners will receive prizes and opportunities to perform at future events.

Golf Cart Decorating and Parade – 9 a.m. – noon, Friday, Sept. 30, University Center Walkway, 5000 Rockhill Rd. UMKC organizations will decorate and showcase their golf carts during the Chancellor’s Lunch – where carts will be judged. They can decorate carts beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at noon.

National Kidney Foundation Walk – 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, starting at University Parkway/Playhouse, near 51st and Holmes Streets. The UMKC Alumni Association has partnered with the Kidney Foundation to sponsor their annual walk, which will take place on the UMKC Volker Campus. Onsite registration begins at 9 a.m.
