Healing Arts Workshops

The Women’s Center offers healing arts workshops as a tool for building and maintaining a healthy campus environment. Using workshops and techniques developed by A Window Between Worlds, our certified healing arts facilitator can tailor workshops for individuals or groups in the UMKC community interested in managing their emotional and psychological well-being through creativity and self-expression.

Our healing arts workshops benefit UMKC through various ways:

  1. Healing and Support: Healing Arts Workshops empower and transform individuals and communities impacted by violence and trauma. By providing an environment that promotes healing, art workshops help individuals develop a renewed sense of hope and possibility that profoundly impacts future decisions regarding the direction of their lives, their relationships, and how to stay safe.
  2. Prevention and Activism: Healing Arts Workshops inform participants about issues relevant to the campus community. By offering workshops that address domestic violence, sexual assault, and gender discrimination, our program uses art to raise awareness and build deeper understand of these issues. Individuals then use art as the vehicle for activism and a catalyst for social change.
  3. Self-Care: Healing Arts Workshops create a moment in time for individuals to focus on their own needs, their own emotional health, and their own well-being. Workshops are offered in a safe, relaxed environment that promotes personal transformation where art becomes a path to self-esteem, self-expression, and self-empowerment.

Healing Arts Workshops are available for groups of any size, including individual, one-to-one sessions and large group workshops for student groups and campus departments. For more information or to schedule a workshop, please contact 816-235-1638 or womens-center@umkc.edu.
