LGBTQIA+ Ice Cream Social

Time:  11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location:  University Walkway, 51st & Holmes St.

Stop by for some free ice cream and slushies from Kona-Ice and engage with members of the UMKC and Kansas City LBGTQIA community. Join us at our table for a fun and relaxing healing arts activity and grab some free Women’s Center swag!

Already feeling overwhelmed? Stop by and chill out with the staff at the Women’s Center while doing some arts and crafts for fun, relaxation, and stress relief. Meet new friends and find out why the Women’s Center is a great place to relax, stay informed, and get involved. Also learn about resources available to students that champion gender equity and empowerment. Free giveaways and snacks!

For Domestic Violence Awareness month, UMKC Collegiate Panhellenic Council and the Women’s Center will be supporting the Rose Brooks Center through a donation drive for in kind needs. The Rose Brooks Center aims to break the cycle of domestic violence so that individuals and families can live free of abuse. Donation bins will be located in the Women’s Center and the Office of Student Involvement. Thank you so much for your contribution!

The Clothesline Project

Location: Rockhill Parking Garage Walkway, 52nd & Rockhill Rd.

This visual display bears witness to domestic and sexual violence. The display is a powerful visual display that is a vehicle for people affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. The shirts are hung on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of sexual and domestic violence.

Her Life as Art: Coming Together Through Grandmother Stories – Art Exhibit

Location: Kansas City United Church of Christ, 205 West 65th St., KCMO

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

This art exhibit is central to a unique, multi-dimensional, week-long series of events celebrating the wisdom and legacy of the grandmother figures in our lives. Other related programs will include a morning community worship, an evening of poetry and music featuring Donnie Halliburton and Glenn North, a photographic experience about the legacy of trees and caring for the environment, and a living history performance by Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti.
