The upcoming Sally Ride Science Festival, which will held at UMKC in partnership with Time Warner Cable-National on Nov. 8th, 2009 is looking for volunteers to help with the Festival.
Here is a list of the shifts and duties for volunteers:
- Shift #1 10:30 – 2:15 these volunteers will help with set-up and helping out with street fair exhibitors
- Shift #2 12:00 – 4:15 these volunteers will act as “Mother and Father Duckies” that take the girls to and from their workshops.
- Shift #3 10:30 – 4:15 the all day volunteers will get a morning assignment and also lead the kids to and from the workshops

The Sally Ride Science Festivals are all about making science, math, engineering and technology accessible, as well as fun and “cool” for 5th thru 8th grade girls with natural scientific curiosity. The Sally Ride Science Team is working in partnership with, Time Warner, UMKC, girls and women’s organizations, clubs, museums, science and technology businesses and organizations, public and private schools, as well as existing networks of women in science and technology to coordinate this community festival. During the festival there will be an inspiring keynote address by a famous scientist and other “cool” science and tech related women professionals; hands-on, creative and fun science, math and tech-related Discovery Workshops designed with upper-elementary and middle school girls in mind; an adult track of workshops for supporting parents, educators and others; a festive “Street Fair” atmosphere providing opportunities for girls to connect with like-minded friends (old and new), network with professional women in the diverse fields of science, explore possible vocations, visit booths sponsored by local organizations, and enjoy entertainment, food, and science-related shopping options.
