Study Tip: Study Groups, SI, and Tutoring Services

Forming a study group is one of the best things you can do for your academic career.  Why?  It gets you active in your learning by giving you opportunities to discuss the course concepts with your classmates!  So how do you get a group together?  By now your pattern of where you sit is pretty much set.  Take some time to get to know the people sitting around you before the first round of testing starts.  Get together over coffee at the Union or around a table at the library to go over your notes, ask questions about material you didn’t understand, or help each other work through problems and difficult concepts.  It could make a huge difference in a few weeks!

Come to the 7th Annual Study Abroad Fair – Sept 16

UMKC’s International Academic Programs is sponsoring the 2010 Study Abroad Fair on Thursday, September 16, 2010, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pierson Auditorium in the University Center.  The Fair is a great way to find out about all the opportunities to learn globally!   Through the Study Abroad program, students can earn academic credit toward their UMKC major.   Information about scholarship, fellowship and financial aid opportunities will also be available at the Fair.

UMKC Student Veterans: Virtual Resource Center

UMKC has launched a Virtual Resource Center especially for our student veterans.  The site contains valuable information, including:  Direct links to several campus resources, detailed instructions on how Veterans can request their military transcripts and training records, comprehensive list of links for Veterans specific resources and organizations, and tiles that link to Registration Quick Guide, Major Maps, and the current semester Catalog.

Congratulations to the Lucerna Contributors!

UMKC Honors Program has announced the publication of this year’s issue of Lucerna, a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal focusing on research conducted by UMKC undergraduate students.

Congratulations to this edition’s featured scholars:  Jennifer Garnett, Thomas Nienaber, Elaina Newton, Paige Snyder, Nicholas Ball, Derek Jenkins, Kathyrn Hembree, and Brodie Barnard.

Lucerna is the university’s only undergraduate research journal publishing articles by students in the sciences, social sciences and humanities.

Established in 2005 by the Honors Program, Lucerna aims to cultivate and showcase high-caliber scholarship from the entire UMKC undergraduate community.
