The women’s tennis team achieved a Summit League Tournament spot over spring break after winning two of four matches against Oakland, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State and IPFW in Fort Wayne, Ind.The Roos stand third in the league with a 6-2 record. The tournament will be held at the Plaza Tennis Center on April 27-28.
IPFW 4 – 1 UMKC
In Saturday’s match against IPFW, the Roos could manage only one singles win. Junior Laura Bouet won straight sets over Mary Huck 6-2 and 6-3.
UMKC 4 – 0 South Dakota State
In Friday’s match against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, the Roos won two out of three doubles matches and took the doubles point, while winning all three singles matches. In doubles play, Bouet and Eva Dalvai won at the No.1 spot 8-1. Freshman Maddie Schulte and sophomore Gabriela Pintos won 8-0 in the No.3 doubles match.
In singles play, the Roos’ No.4, 5 and 6 players won straight sets. Schulte beat Megan McDougall 6-2 and 6-0. Junior Suzan Lisenby won 6-0 and 6-0, and senior Jillian Yakominich won 6-2 and 6-2 at the No.6 spot.
Oral Roberts 4 – 0 UMKC
In Friday’s match, the Roos failed to win a singles or a doubles match.
In the No.1 match, Dalvai lost 6-1, 3-6and 6-0 to Iryna Khatsko.
UMKC 4 – 0 Oakland
On Thursday, the Roos won all three doubles matches for the doubles point. In doubles play, Dalvai and Boeut won 8-0, while Lisenby and freshman Amelia Amsallem sealed the doubles point with an 8-2 win.
In singles play, Dalvai, Lisenby and Amsallem all won in straight sets.
The Roos will return to face Southwest Baptist on April 3 and Nebraska-Omaha on April 6 at the Plaza Tennis Center.
