Women’s relay team finishes fifth

The women’s track & field 4x400m relay team, compiled of senior Sa’Kia Taylor, freshman Briana Carter and sophomores Viola Kleiser and Veronica Rollins, finished 5th at the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa.

The Roos posted a time of 3:50.39 to beat out North Dakota State’s B team, Arizona State, Grinnell College and Sioux Falls, while Texas Tech won the event with a time of 3:34.51.

In a separate tournament, the track & field team has also seen seven team members compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational in a meet hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Senior Aubrey Frederking led the Roos after setting a new school record in the mile run with a time of 4:59.44 and 25th place finish. Frederking’s time was the first time in Roo history a female athlete has run the mile in indoor competition in under five minutes. Freshman Siara Stahl also achieved a personal best as she finished in 5:06.61.

In the 3000 m run, freshman Courtney Frerichs earned 7th place with a time of 10:03.74, while senior Jylian Jaloma’s followed in 8th position with a time of 10:05.29.

On the men’s side, junior Daniel Mann finished 34th in the mile with a personal-best 4:15.68.
