Women’s basketball falls with .4 seconds left in the game

The women’s basketball team battled to double overtime on Saturday night, before falling to a three-point shot with 0.4 seconds left in the game to the Texas-Pan American Broncs, 84-82.

The loss featured standout performances by sophomore Callie White, who had 24 points during the game, and a double-double by freshman Kiana Law, with 19 points.

“We gave really good effort today,” White said.  “The game could have gone either way.  Now we have them Wednesday and we are prepared for what we will see.  We have time to watch film and fix our mistakes then go out on Wednesday and take care of business.”

The loss to the Broncs ended the regular season, and the team moves on the WAC Tournament this week.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity that they have presented us.  When you get into the postseason, it’s anyone’s game,” UMKC Head Coach Marsha Frese said. “Today gave us a ton of confidence that this is a team we can compete with and beat and that’s the mindset you want have going into postseason play.”

Freshman Aries Washington reached 11 points during the game and freshman Samantha Waldron had 10 points of her own.

The Roos will face Texas-Pan American again on Wednesday night to open the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas.
