Johnson County judges recently sentenced a former school principal to probation for stealing his ex-wife’s purses and then setting her car on fire.

Craig Butler pleaded that he had been “mentally ill and hearing voices” at the time of the arson and burglary. The former principal still received a probationary sentence, even though he mailed the purses back to his ex-wife.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City is hosting its second annual Baconfest fundraiser on August 28 in Waldo, Mo.

For a $30 registration fee, pork enthusiasts will enjoy “bacon, beer, and bands,” not to mention a Baconfest 2010 tee-shirt.

Local restaurants will provide “creative bacon fare,” while guests may participate in a “bacon eating” or “best bacon recipe” contest and even enter for a chance to be crowned Bacon King or Queen.

The proceeds from the event will go toward benefiting the children and adults receiving help from the institute.
