UMKC’s Women’s Basketball could not snap their losing streak as they came up short in their first home game. UMKC put in a valiant effort but lost by a 7-point margin—84-91 to George Mason University.
During the second half, there were sporadic attempts at a comeback by the Roos, with the game tied 51-51 at one time.
UMKC tried to come back at the end of the game by fouling the George Mason but they sunk 10-12 free throws down the stretch. Toward the end, George Mason’s consistent play outperformed the Roos.
George Mason also had a few clutch 3-pointers and went to the free throw line often (24-31), indicating that UMKC had foul trouble. The Patriots avoided foul trouble with UMKC only shooting nine free throws during the game.
There were significant performances by UMKC, however. Emily Ivory had seven 3-pointers during the game, Kristen Moore had seven rebounds and 13 points, and Cristina Soriano made some points which helped keep UMKC stay in range of the Patriots.
“I felt that we played really well as a team,” Moore said.
Moore also said that, with the upcoming games on the team’s schedule, she wanted to emphasize the positives. She is excited about what is coming up for the team.
The Roos will play against Peru State at home on this upcoming Thursday evening.
