The men’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker against Utah Valley on Thursday evening, falling 75-67. A late comeback fell short when the offense sputtered against the Wolverines.
UMKC held an early lead early in the first half, but by halftime the Wolverines were
ahead by 10 points.
An attempt at a three-point barrage by UMKC near the end of the game almost worked. The
Roos defense tried to do its part, but the impetus was mainly on the offensive end. Foul
trouble for the Roos played a part, with the Wolverines gaining an offensive edge
by way of free-throws. There was a technical foul on Utah Valley near the end of
the game, but it was not enough to capitalize on.
There were positive performances on UMKC’s end, however. Xavier Bishop went 4-of-6 on
three-pointers, while Rob Whitfield finished 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Danny Dixon also added four rebounds in the contest.
Bishop was dissatisfied with UMKC’s performance, but he felt positive about the upcoming games that will allow the team to rebound.
“It’s another opportunity,” he said.
