The UMKC softball team had it rough this weekend, falling 0-2 to the New Mexico State Aggies in back-to-back games Saturday in what would’ve been a three game series.
The Roos lost game one 8 – 3 after a furious offensive rally by New Mexico State. The Aggies scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and maintained a 7 – 0 lead the Roos were unable to fully recover from, despite a solo homerun from Marlee Maples. Maples went 2-for-3 in game one, recording a double in addition to her homer.
During game two, Cinda Ramos and Katie Kelley both homered to get the Roos started, and things looked good for UMKC who led 9 – 5 at the top of the sixth inning. A four-run rally by the Aggies in the bottom of the sixth served as the kiss of death for UMKC. The Roos were unable to make a comeback after New Mexico scored its 10th run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Kelley batted 2-for-3 in game two and recorded her 13th homerun of the season. Additionally, Maples and Brooke Parker collected three hits each for UMKC throughout the day.
The Roos will return home to face Seattle University on Friday, Apr. 17 at 2 p.m.
