Three UMKC basketball players received WAC honors last week.
Sophomore Martez Harrison was named 2015 WAC Player of the Year, Senior Reese Holliday and Freshman Aries Washington were named to the WAC All-Newcomer Team.
The honors are voted on by the league’s coaches and were announced last Tuesday before the start of the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
Harrison, a sophomore, is the only player in UMKC history to be named Freshman of the Year (2014) and Player of the Year (2015).
He reached 1,000 points in only 58 games, the fourth fastest ever, and entered the tournament ranked 10th all-time in career points. This year, he led the league in scoring, steals and free throws attempted and made. Harrison was also named First-Team All-WAC.
Holliday also earned All-Newcomer Team honors. Holliday ranked 15th in scoring for WAC only games, and 20th in rebounding.
Washington led the Roos in scoring during WAC play. She also led the entire conference in free throw percentage, and led freshman in scoring and third in rebounds.
Washington is the first Roos to be named to the All-Newcomer team since Eilise O’Connor was named to The Summit League All-Newcomer Team in 2010-11.
