There’s no question about it – college is stressful.
Even though the semester may have only just begun, discover some of the best ways to relax around campus before classes come into full swing and you’re overcome with stress.
1. Swinney Rec Center
Exercise is proven to be one of the best ways to relieve stress. Whether you’re looking to go for a run, take a class, use the massage chairs or hang out in the pool, Swinney has everything you could need. From yoga to high-intensity interval training, Swinney offers tons of free and inexpensive options to stay active.
2. Rooftop Terrace at the Student Union
While the weather is still warm, take advantage of the garden terrace on the roof of the student union. Grab a coffee, hang out with friends or catch up on homework. Not only is it pretty quiet, but it offers some great views of campus as well as KC.
3. Loose Park
At 75 acres, Loose Park is one of the most popular and beautiful parks in KC and is a UMKC student favorite. Just off Wornall, the park is a five-minute drive from campus and offers several different walking paths, a rose garden, fountains, tennis courts and a pond.
4. KC Roos
From a new logo to a brand-new court design, there’s never been a better time to support the Roos and catch a game with friends. UMKC is KC’s only Division 1 team. The best part? Students get in free with their UMKC ID.
5. Explore the city
One of the best things about UMKC is that it’s in the heart of KC. From Brookside to Westport, there are tons of great shops and restaurants all around campus. Grab a group of friends and shop, grab lunch or chill at one of the dozens of coffee shops.
