Tennis: Lady Roos continue winning streak

The women’s tennis team won last week against South Dakota, IUPUI, Western Illinois and Southern Utah at the Summit League Cluster in Las Vegas, Nev. The Roos (8-7, 4-0 in Summit League play) tie for 1st with IPFW, and remain unbeaten in conference play.

UMKC 4 – Southern Utah 3

In Saturday morning’s match against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, the Roos took the doubles point and split the singles points, winning 4-3.

Doubles pair junior Suzan Lisenby and freshman Amelie Amsallem won 9-7 at the No.2 spot. Juniors Eva Dalvai and Laura Bouet lost 8-5 at the No.1 spot. The Thunderbirds forfeited the deciding doubles match at the No.3 spot due to unavailable players.

In singles, Bouet beat Alex Ivanona 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 at the No.2 spot, while freshman Madeline Schulte won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. The Thunderbirds also forfeited the No.6 spot.

UMKC 7 – Western Illinois 0

In Friday afternoon’s match against the Western Illinois Leathernecks, the Roos won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, only giving up one singles point.

The Leathernecks only had five players, so the Roos won one singles and one doubles match by default.

In doubles play, Dalvai and Bouet and Lisenby and Amsallem won 8-0.

In singles play, Bouet, Amsallem and Lisenby all won in straight sets at the No.3, 4 and 5 spots respectively. Dalvai defeated Ashley Rettger at the No.1 spot.

UMKC 6 – IUPUI 1

On Friday morning, the Roos defeated the IUPUI Jaguars 6-1, winning all three doubles matches and five of six in singles play.

The Roos were successful at the No.1 and 2 spots in doubles play. Schulte and sophomore Gabriela Pintos won 8-4 at the No.3 spot.

Dalvai, Bouet, Amsallem, Schulte and Yakominich all won their matches in straight sets. Lisenby lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-7 (6-8) during a tie-breaker.

UMKC 7 – South Dakota 0

The Roos defeated the South Dakota State Coyotes 7-0 during Thursday’s Summit League match, winning two of three in doubles play and six in singles play.

The No.3 doubles spot of Schulte and Pintos beat Yamini Reddy and Veronika Makashov 8-3.

All six spots were victorious in singles action. The Roos lost two sets.

After successful start to Summit League Conference play, the Roos will face Northwest Missouri State on March 26 in Maryville, Mo.
