The UMKC Men’s Basketball Team (8-17, 3-7 WAC) emerged victorious in their second-to-last home game against conference rival Utah Valley Saturday night at the Municipal Auditorium. The Roos gained a 77-70 win against the Wolverines sinking a total of 13 shots from outside the arc.
Sophomore forward Jordan Giles scored an amazing nine points in less than five minutes of the game as both the Roos and the Wolverines set out on an intense offensive pace.
Both teams shot at 50 percent or better from the field for most of the first half.
UMKC took control from there, only allowing the Wolverines to max out the lead at five points, keeping Utah Valley out of any possible transition.
The Roos closed the first half with a 13-2 run against the Wolverines, which included a trey for a 40-31 halftime advantage.
UVU would not go down without a fight in the second half cutting the margin down to 45-41, with an 8-0 run. However, UMKC expanded their lead to 14 points before UVU could get a handle on the rally.
Senior guard Broderick Robinson tallied his second double-double of the season with a career best of 11 rebounds to pair with 17 points.
The Roos closed out the game with a final score of 77 to 70.
UMKC will wrap up their home stand at the Municipal Auditorium this Thursday at 7 p.m. against Chicago state.
