Sophomore outside hitter Alicia Harrington and sophomore middle hitter Mykal Sadler combined for 18 out of 33 kills for the Roos, but could not stop the 3-0 upset from Bakersfield at Saturday afternoon’s volleyball match.
“We needed to match energy and we didn’t do that,” said Head Coach Christi Posey, commenting on the match’s dynamics.
The Roadrunners were quick to set the lead on the scoreboard in the first set, leaving the Roos in a struggle to play catchup. By the third time out, the Roos stood at 17-21, with the Roadrunners following up shortly with a match point, finishing 25-18.
The Roos looked hopeful in the second set, being the first to place a point on the board. The Roadrunners quickly caught up to the Roos with a point by Bakersfield’s senior middle blocker, Haylee Roberts. Bakersfield took the second set in a close 25-22.
Bakersfield also took the last set, 25-14, in a quick victory.
“We have to grind out plays a bit better, even we are not at our best,” said coach Posey.
The next match up, with Chicago State, takes place Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Swinney Recreational Center.
