Roos Recommend what to read, watch, and listen to over break

Alex Williams, a UMKC Music Composition major, recommends his current favorite movie, TV series, composer and book to check out.

The last movie I watched was Set It Up. It’s about two interns that try to hook their bosses up because they’re horrible people but they’re nicer when they’re in love. It’s lower budget but I strongly recommend it. It’s hilarious.

TV Series

I really recommend The Haunting of Hill House. What I liked about it was that it had a great plot. But the best way to watch is to just sit down and binge watch the whole thing. It’s so well connected and has an amazing arc. It’s also really scary!

A composer I’ve been listening to a lot lately is Béla Bartók. I’ve been listening to his concerto for orchestra. It’s incredibly intense and just so brilliant. Bartók inspires my own writing. It’s a great piece to listen to for someone who is new to modern orchestral music.

I recently read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I thought it was an incredibly insightful book about what’s going on with people of color and the police force. It really widened my perspective on several issues that our country is facing right now.
