The softball team broke a six-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory against North Carolina State at the Kentucky Invitational Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Ky.
Early in the Invitational, the Roos lost to North Carolina State, UAB twice and Kentucky before finishing 3rd overall.
UMKC 3 – North Carolina State 2 (Bracket) In the Kentucky Invitational’s consolation game on Sunday, the Roos (11-11, 1-2 in Summit League play) defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack 3-2.
The Roos quickly took the lead. In the second inning, sophomore catcher Katie Henning’s single to center field, followed by freshman pitcher Cinda Ramos’ single to left field brought junior Tata Wolf home. With Henning and senior Kelly Fischer on base, senior Anna Sokolik singled to left field, scoring Henning. Senior Kaelene Curry scored after junior Emily Ott walked with the bases loaded. The Roos gave up one run in the bottom of the second, but scored again in the bottom of the fifth.
Ramos forced two pop-outs in the seventh and final inning. Ramos completed her 10th game of the season, giving up two runs and striking out three, while going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Curry and Henning each recorded a hit and a run.
The Blue & Gold will take on Wichita State in two games March 21 at the Missouri 3 & 2 Field in Kansas City.
