The UMKC women’s basketball team lost its opening round game last Wednesday night against the Texas-Pan American Broncs, 61-50.
The loss meant that the Roos would not advance in the tournament and the season had concluded.
“We aren’t happy with the final score, but I’m really proud of our team this year,” said Head Coach Marsha Frese. “I think back to where this team started this season, in particular our freshmen class. We are a whole different team. I’m really proud of how hard they came to work every day and how much they wanted to learn. I’m excited about where this program is going in the future.”
The Broncs led early, but the Roos battled back to take the lead 27-25 going into the second half.
UMKC took off out of the locker rooms with an 11-0 run. The Broncs made their own run to take the lead. The Roos took the league just one more time before Texas-Pan American would close out the game 61-50.
Sophomore Callie White led the Roos with 12 points, and Freshman Kiana Law finished with 11 points and eight rebounds of her own. Freshman Sierra Bone contributed her own nine points.
