Mirror image: UMKC Lady Roos lose another close one to Seattle University

Last Thursday’s game at Swinney was a close call, though Utah Valley ultimately came out on top against the Lady Roos.

Saturday’s match versus Seattle University was similarly close with UMKC losing by a similar margin, 62-58. Both are valiant losses for a struggling season for the Lady Roos.

Like Thursday’s game, neither team held an all-encompassing lead for any significant amount of time. UMKC led for some of the second half, as did the Red Hawks but both teams had ruts in terms of offense. UMKC went rather cold when it counted most at the end of the game itself.

UMKC tried to at least force overtime near the end but was unable to pull off the attempt. There were a number of fouls committed by UMKC although there was little obvious choice in the matter.

Seattle’s Red Hawks were not taken in by the fouls, as close as UMKC came at the conclusion.

This time, Aries Washington was the stand-out for the Lady Roos at the 3-point line, shooting 3 of 7 and scoring superb 2-pointers.

Washington was fairly pleased by the overall game. “I think that we played well,” she said after the challenging contest.

The Lady Roos continue their struggling season out west at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday January 18 at 9 PM.
