UMKC men’s soccer led by Head Coach Rick Benben visited the Plaster Sports Complex in Springfield, Mo., and finished with a 2-2 draw against the Bears Saturday.
Both teams scored all four goals in the first half but were unable to break the tie keeping UMKC from its first regular season victory.
Missouri State opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Emmerich Hoegg found the back of the net after hitting a left-footed strike that beat UMKC’s goalkeeper Chris McGaughey.
Eight minutes later, UMKC senior Jordan Rideout tied the game when he was left alone against Bears goalkeeper Liam Priestley after a clearance from UMKC, quieting the 767 fans in attendance.
Moments after Rideout’s goal, the Bears increased the lead 2-1 when Brandon Barbero received a wide open pass inside the box and struck it into McGaughey’s goal.
In the 35th minute, the Kangaroos found the equalizer when redshirt freshman Wes White crossed a ball to the box from the corner, which crossed the goal line to tie the score again.
After 90 minutes, the game went to overtime but neither team was able to score the winning goal.
Next up, the ‘Roos will return to Durwood Stadium this Wednesday at 7 p.m., hosting SIU-Edwardsville in the team’s regular season home opener.
