Men’s and women’s basketball added new recruits for the upcoming season.
Men’s basketball coach Billy Donlon signed his first recruit at UMKC when redshirt sophomore-to-be Demarius Pitts announced he is transferring to UMKC. Pitts started his collegiate career at Division II Virginia Union.
“I’m really happy to be coming to UMKC,” said Pitts in a press release from UMKC Athletics . “I feel it’s a great opportunity for me where I can showcase my talent and display my ability. I feel like I can do way much more at the Division I level. I just want to help my team win and eventually make it to the (NCAA) tournament.”
Pitts is coming off being named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Year. During his freshman campaign, Pitts averaged 13.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and had 34 steals.
Women’s basketball announced the additions of Mandy Willems and Naomie Alnatas, who will have three years of eligibility left at UMKC. Both Willems and Alnatas spent a season at the junior college ranks.
“Our program is thrilled with the additions of Mandy and Naomie,” said women’s basketball coach Jacie Hoyt. “As a coaching staff we have committed ourselves to finding not just great players, but great people that fit the character and culture of our program.”
Both Alnatas and Willems will add outside shooting to the team. Alnatas shot 40.3% from the beyond the arc, and Willems led the nation at all levels with 186 made three-pointers.
