Kitchen Hacks

There are many kitchen hacks, using gadgets or simple upcycled elements. Here are just a few:

  • Turn any grill into a smoker by placing woodchips into a tin foil bag and placing it on the grill while cooking.
  • Panini presses can be used for nearly anything!  Cook flatbreads, chicken, burgers, veggies, omelets, pancakes, and more.
  • Put pancake or waffle batter into used and cleaned ketchup bottles to make for simple, mess free pancakes.
  • Shred butter into recipes so it melts and mixes better.
  • No eggs?  Replace with 1 tbsp. flax meal and 3 tbsp. water or 1 tbsp. soy flour and 1 tbsp. water.  (Only works for baking.)
  • Use 1 tsp. of white vinegar per every cup of milk to make buttermilk.  Allow mix to sit for a few minutes.
  • Use 1 cup butter and 1 cup olive oil mixed with a masher or electric mixer to make easy-spread butter.
  • For easy peeling of hard boiled eggs, boil then let sit in ice bath for at least 15 minutes.
  • Frozen meat is easier to cut, as long as your knife is sharp enough.
  • Waffle irons are awesome for cooking hash browns.
  • Place a piece of bread in a tin of cookies to keep them moist.
  • Store brown sugar with a couple of big marshmallows to keep the sugar from hardening.
  • Put a paper towel in with lettuce to keep it from going bad as quickly.
  • Put uncooked rice into salt shakers to keep it from sticking together.
