Kansas City men’s soccer looks to improve upon last season

The Kansas City men’s soccer team ended last season on a high note, winning three of their last four games. Led by senior goalkeeper Filippo Enrico and Head Coach Rick Benben, the Roos are looking to build off this success and clinch both WAC and NCAA tournament berths after missing out a year ago.

Benben knows his team can bounce back from what was an underwhelming season.

“First, we need our players to play to the best of their ability and to play at a high level each and every time we play,” Benben said.

The team brought in a large group of freshmen and newcomers during the offseason and is working to blend them in. Benben said it’s important the freshman start contributing this season.

The Roos defeated Rockhurst 1-0 in their exhibition match and have two more scrimmages before starting the season with a two-game road trip against Missouri State and Oral Roberts.

“The fans expect us to win more games and start off strong this season,” said Enrico.

Enrico, the most decorated player on the team, wants to record as many shutouts as possible to help the team reach the WAC tournament.

The men’s team said it would be “instant gratification” if they reached the NCAA tournament. They also want to make sure the fans are happy with their play.

Senior defender Antoine Precheur said the whole team has the same goals and wants to represent the university the best they can.
