Kansas City impresses at WAC Indoors Championship

The Kansas City Roos track and field team participated in the WAC Indoors Championship on Feb. 28-29 and showed out in many events.

The Roos were ready to put their stamp on this competition as Gevon Forman won Kansas City’s first medal of the tournament in the weight throw competition, recording a 17.98 meter throw to collect silver. The Roos won another silver medal in the men’s high jump as Josh Benford took flight to break the school record with a 2.14 meter jump.

Sommer Herner was outstanding during the tournament, winning gold in both the women’s mile run and the 800 meter race while also adding a silver in the 3000 meter.

Jaquez Perry also had an impressive outing, especially in the 400 meter dash. Perry took first in heat one and eventually earned bronze with a time of 48.97.

The Roos were lucky to have Christopher Bryan in their corner, as he collected medals in all three competitions he took part in. Bryan won gold in both the triple jump and long jumps with  15.98 and 7.60 meters, respectively, and he took home silver in the 60-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 8.16 seconds.

The Roos will look to continue their strong outings when they compete in the NCAA Indoors Tournament on March 13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
