Kangaroo Pantry provides food assistance for underserved UMKC community

“We believe no UMKC student, faculty or staff member should go hungry.”

This is the proud motto of UMKC’s Kangaroo Pantry, opened in March of 2015.

Since the cutting of the ribbon and opening of the doors, Kangaroo Pantry has provided students, faculty and stuff with food assistance.

Through volunteers and donations from the community, Kangaroo Pantry has strived to feed the underserved UMKC community. The staff at the pantry know that hunger and food insecurity is universal, and there is no shaming or judgment for anyone entering the pantry.

It’s vital for students to get the nutrients they need to live a healthy lifestyle and succeed in school, and no one should lack in these areas due to their financial position.

The process of getting food is simple. When students, staff and faculty arrive at the pantry, they fill out a food request form, which gives them the option of what food they need and want.

Additionally, clients can put any dietary restrictions on the form, and the pantry will accommodate those needs. Give the Kangaroo Pantry staff no more than 10 minutes, and your order is ready.

What types of food can you expect? Breakfast items such as cereal and oatmeal, as well as canned beans, vegetables, fruits, meat, pasta, fruits and snacks are provided.

“It’s an easy process. It provides the necessary amount of food that can last a month,” said UMKC student Dasia C.

Don’t go hungry anymore! Stop by the Kangaroo Pantry on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. Located at 4825 Troost Kansas City MO 64110.
