German scholars to meet in Kansas City for annual conference

The German Studies Association will hold its 38th annual conference in Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 18-21. The conference will feature more than 100 short German studies-related lectures and exhibits in multiple locations, most of which will be held at the World War I Museum and Crown Center.

The GSA is a national and international association comprised of experts in all fields of German studies. As the GSA conference program states, “Its interest spans the period from the earliest times to the present Federal Republic of Germany, Austria and Switzerland … [and] welcomes as members all those whose interests involve specific or broad aspects of history, literature, culture studies, politics and government, relating to German-speaking Europe.”

The lectures will be led by scholarly members of the GSA and will range from German opera to war trauma to black studies in Germany. In addition to the lectures there will be book exhibits run by various publishers and organizations related to German studies.

The conference will kick off with a GSA annual general meeting for all current GSA members at 4 p.m. Sept. 18. The seminars will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 and will continue through Sept. 21.

Information on becoming a member of the GSA, as well as a complete list of event and lecture dates and times, can be found at www.thegsa.org.
