That’s exactly what happened last Tuesday, thanks to the UMKC Women’s Center.
Dozens of women gathered near campus at Nick and Jake’s on Main St. for a networking event hosted by the center, along with other feminist organizations.
“We also have women here from Women in STEAM and HER Art Project,” said Brenda Bethman, Director of Women and Gender Studies at UMKC.
Women in attendance discussed various topics, including gender issues, nonprofit organization and networking opportunities.
“We talked about opportunities to work with nonprofits in the area and about different gender issues relating to children,” UMKC freshman Miranda Fritz said.
“It was cool to talk to people in the community who are doing awesome things that are different than what I do,” Fritz said.
For the organizations represented at the event, the main goal is to empower women.
“We like to get together and host fun events where women can encourage each other to be successful,” Assistant Director of the Women’s Center Arzie Umali said.
