The Legacy Award, a distinction given annually to alumni families with a history of involvement in UMKC and community service, will go to a family of five alumni spread over two generations.
The Hartwig family is recognized for its charitable efforts with the Red Cross last year to provide services to help patients better understand their medications.
Services included immunizations, testing, medication therapy and one-on-one counseling with a pharmacist.
On the UMKC front, the Hartwigs help train UMKC pharmacy program candidates, have established a scholarship for pharmacy students and serve on multiple advisory boards.
Hartwig family alumni include B. David Hartwig, Steven E. Hartwig, D. Matthew Hartwig, David’s father-in-law, William Tempel and David’s wife, Lisa Hartwig.
UMKC will honor the family at a luncheon event on April 26 at the Westin Crown Center Hotel with presentations by the Alumni Association.
